{"id":2070,"date":"2019-04-23T09:37:00","date_gmt":"2019-04-23T09:37:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kerikeriradiosailing.co.nz\/iom\/?p=2070"},"modified":"2019-04-24T10:46:12","modified_gmt":"2019-04-24T10:46:12","slug":"kerikeri-club-champs-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.kerikeriradiosailing.co.nz\/iom\/archives\/2070","title":{"rendered":"Kerikeri Club Champs 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>It was a little bit of a down and out weekend<\/strong> for the Kerikeri Club Champs over Easter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Boats didn&#8217;t turn up<\/strong> because of family functions and the wind didn&#8217;t turn up and nobody knows why!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2071 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kerikeriradiosailing.co.nz\/iom\/wp-content\/uploads\/Snapshot-3-22-04-2019-11-27-PM-300x169.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.kerikeriradiosailing.co.nz\/iom\/wp-content\/uploads\/Snapshot-3-22-04-2019-11-27-PM-300x169.png 300w, http:\/\/www.kerikeriradiosailing.co.nz\/iom\/wp-content\/uploads\/Snapshot-3-22-04-2019-11-27-PM.png 1308w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0However,\u00a0 with a late start, racing commenced<\/strong> with eight boats on the start line. The first three races were off wind starts and this made for a lottery when the whole fleet converged on the bottom mark that nobody could see!<\/p>\n<p><strong>There was an unusual dog leg<\/strong> on the course because of a wind change and this confused a few (including myself) when rounding the wrong way!<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Roddy Booth who happened to be race officer<\/strong> was having some good consistent places early on and called lunch when the lake looked like a mill pond.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dougy organised some great refreshments<\/strong> for lunch\u00a0 and everybody seemed quite happy to have good social time; however, Neil and Deano and Dougy were determined to get some racing in!<\/p>\n<p><strong>The others all went home<\/strong> and the four boats that were left continued to battle it out until\u00a0 4pm.<\/p>\n<p><strong>At that stage Roddy still had a one point lead<\/strong> over Dougy; and despite Roddy&#8217;s unwillingness to sail on the Sunday because of a threatening rain forecast, he and 6 other boats turned up to a nice wind and blue skies in the morning!<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0Once the\u00a0 boats were rigged the wind disappeared\u00a0<\/strong> so yet another frustrating day of sailing in very trying conditions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Again a few boats went home<\/strong> because they couldn&#8217;t hack it and the five stalwarts, Roddy Booth, Doug Kane, Dean\u00a0 Lutze, Neil Deverell, Roy Brown,and maybe Glen Riley\u00a0 raced till 1.30 p.m. \u00a0Roddy held off Doug and a late challenge from Dean, so his name goes on the trophy for another year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Overall\u00a0 a great time was had by all<\/strong> and a big effort was put in by Doug for organizing a fun weekend<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerikeriradiosailing.co.nz\/iom\/wp-content\/uploads\/Club_Champs_19.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Results<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=JazG_Kw3FNI&amp;t=1s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Video<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It was a little bit of a down and out weekend for the Kerikeri Club Champs over Easter.
